This must not be done. Before changing the direction, disengage the drive and switch it on only after setting the lawnmower for straight ahead. Turning and u-turning when the drive is engaged leads to very rapid damage to the transmission, especially the gears at the wheels and transmission.
Blunt or worn cutting blade – remove the spark plug wire (petrol lawnmower), disconnect the plug from the power socket (electric lawnmower), remove the knife, sharpen and balance the blade (using a service centre for this work is preferred) or replace the blade with a proper one; soiled discharge chute in the lawnmower housing – clean thoroughly; blocked holes in the grass basket – clean thoroughly, e.g. with compressed air or wash with water; heavily soiled underside of the lawnmower housing – clean thoroughly by removing grass residues.
Skewed cutting blade because of hitting a hard object or uneven terrain, bent blade holder / adapter, bent engine shaft end – remove the spark plug wire, check the condition of the cutting blade and holder / adapter, replace if damaged; if the fault is still present, visit the nearest service centre to find the cause of the problem.
Check the adjustment of the steering cable clearance; remove the spark plug wire, remove the drive belt cover – clean the cover and the drive by removing grass residues; check whether the drive belt is cracked, burned or improperly fitted, replace if necessary; check that the tensioning spring is not missing, replace if necessary; if the fault is still present, visit the nearest service centre to find the cause of the problem.
When operating without a load (mowing grass), the engine may change its speed to a small extent, which may give the impression of uneven operation (going up and down). This is normal and is related to the design features of the lawnmower engine (mechanical governor) especially when the engine is running without a load. However, when working under load, the permitted unevenness of engine speed is +/- 50 rpm. The unevenness can also be caused by a soiled carburettor or damage to the components of the governor – visit a service centre to find the cause of the problem.
Petrol stays fresh for up to 30 days, then its quality may undergo de-emulsification, wax and solvents can precipitate and block the internal carburettor channels. Therefore, it is preferred to have pure petrol in reserve only for the next period, and the fuel in the engine should be finished or kept for a short period of no more than a few days.
Engine brake activated – press the brake lever on the upper handlebar of the lawnmower; remove the spark plug wire, tilt the mower backwards and check whether the blade is not locked; if the fault is still present, visit the nearest service centre to find the cause of the problem.
Too little fuel in the tank – top up to a height of max. 1 cm from the filler; stale fuel in the tank – remove and fill with fresh fuel (fuel has a storage life up to 30 days); remove the spark plug and check if a spark is generated, replace if in doubt (replace the spark plug once per season); soiled or clogged air filter – wash the sponge filter according to the operating instructions, replace the paper filter; if the fault is still present, visit the nearest service centre to find the cause of the problem.
